Backups obtained while holding the write-lock should be completely  
fine - as I believe that is how PLoS was doing their backups this  
shouldn't have affected your existing backups.

AFAIK this affects PLoS only in that with this patch you won't be  
seeing the NPE when you try and run backups on the committed-phase as  
we discussed in SF.
