[Mulgara-dev] The LCA Paper introducing RDF, Mulgara, and the XA2 design is now available.

I thought some people might be interested to know that I delivered a  
paper to linux.conf.au this morning.  It includes an introduction to  
what I see as the potential of RDF, Mulgara, and the new XA2 store- 
layer.  The paper was very well received, and I am hoping to be able  
to organise a screencast of the presentation next week sometime.  If  
the audio proves inadequate I'll arrange to deliver it to a local  
user-group which will let me rerecord it in a few weeks.

The  Resource  Description  Framework  (RDF)  is  a  suite  of   
technology  standards  produced  by  the  W3C  that provides  a   
possible  solution  to  the  problems  posed  by  semi structured   
data.  Supporting  these  standards,  the Mulgara  Project  (http:// 
www.mulgara.org)  is currently  the  leading  Open Source   
implementation.   We  first  provide a formal  definition of  semi  
structured data  in terms  of  vocabulary and semantics.  We then  
examine a rationale for RDF as a model for semi structured data from  
the perspective of Relational Normalisation. We then discuss the  
Mulgara Project, its existing design and functionality. The paper  
then introduces the design of a new store layer  based on a  
combination of  functional  programming techniques,  specifically  
Okasaki style persistent datastructures,  and  traditional   
techniques  of  efficient  external memory  datastructures.  This   
combination  is shown to provide substantially simplified  
implementations of advanced enterprise functionality including:   
Lock  free multiversion concurrency; Live backup and restore;  
Federation; and Replication.
