hi,
there are some problems with the current layout of the mulgara website.
some of them are technical problems connected to bugs in firefox and some
of them stem from the layout itself which is technically quite heavy -
lots of fixed positioning, lots of semi-transparent images - and some of
them, like the styleswitcher are workarounds which cause new problems
themself.
i'm also not very happy with the aesthetics itself and so i decided to take
a fresh start. i didn't want to change the logo, the background-picture and
the colors but you will see that the redesign process developed some
dynamics...
look here: http://syntheti.cc/mulgara/v20/index.html
to point out a few improvements:
- the code is much leaner now
- it should render fast enough on old machines without the need to switch
to a simplified stylesheet
- the site is visually lighter and there's less overlapping, less clutter
- the navigation is clearer
- i added a feature that allows to hide margins on the left and right and
get a very text-only view. click the triangle at the left bottom of the
page. i figure this can be usefull when working with the documentation -
e.g. having the itql-page open at the side of the screen while developing
queries.
if you like it i will change the site and the documentation to this layout.
hope you like it! it's tested on safari and firefox2/mac. standards
conformance, internet exploder compatability and other details will be done
after i get your okay.
now: your critizism, please!
ciao
thomas
